Back from the Big Apple.

This self portrait was taken on the beach at Coney Island while I was missing my family and enjoying the warmth of the sun on my face. I have decided to have a show over my Coney Island series as well as a few other photographic themes. These images will not be posted on my blog due to the importance to me and conflicted nature of commissioned work versus personal. As I have been involved with photography for many years now, I always felt it was important to stay connected with the history that photography has evolved from and the artists that paved the way. Diane Arbus has always been one of my favorites, she started out shooting the derelicts, outcasts and "freaks" on Coney Island. This venture to Coney Island that day was the quintessential moment for me to take a moment for myself, remember her struggles as she committed suicide, and to grow in every way possible, but mainly as an artist. I will be posting show details for later this year on my new blog.

So Ive been back from NYC, a personal adventure and sight workshop for 3 weeks now and am still looking to update the blog with the best of, I will be launching a new blog in the next couple of weeks and will save my NYC for the pops and launch on that one
WHat was I doing in the Big Apple you ask??...I shot personal work in Coney Island, an engagement shoot in the Meatpacking District, an art gallery opening night in Bushwick Brooklyn, a Jazz and Art Peripheral Media show and everything else in between. I must say it was more difficult than I thought to leave my family and roles at home and pack up my life on my back and venture out to subways and taxis and a Big City where everyone wears black and close-toed shoes. I am still the same girl that studied in Europe and practically backpacked barefoot from one border to the next, but that was nearly 10 years ago. What an eye opener? So...as I said I will save my recap for the new blog, cant wait! Just when you get one portal looking the way you like it, your peers and colleagues have to up the ante and make everyone look bad so we all have to do the switcheroo AGAIN. Bear with me as I tie up the loose ends to raise my own little bar....Cheers! ~aimee
